Education is a proven catalyst for reducing poverty, improving health outcomes, enhancing longevity and elevating overall quality of life. However, despite its many benefits, ensuring access to quality education remains a formidable challenge in rural parts of the country.
Lack of access to basic schooling is a leading contributor to rural poverty. Nepal has set its sights on providing universal compulsory primary education, but achieving this goal has proven to be challenging. To make this a reality, it is crucial to instill in every resident of rural Nepal the importance of pursuing education, whether for themselves, their children, their parents, or their community.
The situation in rural Nepal is alarming, as most children receive subpar education in run-down government classrooms, taught by untrained and demotivated educators. Consequently, academic outcomes suffer, attendance rates plummet, and graduation rates are abysmal. Worldwide, research has shown that edu-deprived children lack essential critical thinking and decision-making skills, making them susceptible to exploitation. They are at a higher risk of becoming victims of child labor, trafficking, and being exploited as overseas laborers.
We urgently need to break the cycle of poverty in rural Nepal which is mainly caused due to lack of proper education. The task of providing quality learning is a daunting challenge. Volunteer For Nepal is committed to making a significant impact on the teaching system in rural areas. We sincerely appreciate your support in this endeavor.
UNICEF reports significant progress in Nepal’s education system over the last 20 years. Nepal has achieved a net enrollment rate of 97% in primary schools. Despite this progress, Nepal still faces numerous challenges in literacy. These remote areas issues include poor quality teachings, unequal access, geographical remoteness, as well as socioeconomic, ethnic and gender disparities. Key obstacles to enrollment and attendance include poverty, social exclusion, disability, migration, child labor, social norms, and gender bias.
